A rhetorical panegyric (according to Dupin, a school exercise) in honor of martyrdom.
The work is already included in the list of Cyprian’s writings (Cheltenham list) and is attributed by Lucifer of Cagliari to St. Cyprian, but it cannot be his work, nor Novatian’s, as Harnack argued, but rather that of an unknown author in Africa who knew Cyprian’s writings and, believing in the imminence of a great epidemic and the end of the world, wrote II. According to U. Koch, it was composed around 253.
