ENRICO dei SANTI NEREO e ACHILLEO. - Cardinal, of the Moricotti family of Pisa, born in Rome in 1179. He became a monk at Clairvaux, was a disciple of St. Bernard, then abbot of the monastery of SS. Vincent and Anastasius at Tre Fontane (Rome), and in 1150 was created cardinal by Eugene III. Adrian IV entrusted him with various diplomatic missions to William of Sicily and Emperor Frederick I. In 1150 he supported the election of Alexander III against Victor IV and was later sent as legate to France and England, where he advised St. Thomas of Canterbury to accept that episcopal see.
