ERVEO (Hervaeus Natalis) of NEDELLEC (also called Hervaeus Brio, i.e., of Brittany), - A Dominican Scholastic of the 13th-14th centuries. He studied at the University of Paris, obtaining the title of Master in Theology in 1307. He served as Provincial for France in 1309 and as General of the Order in 1318; he died in Narbonne in 1323. A principal representative of the French territorial school in the first decades after the death of the Master, E. vigorously defended the doctrine of St. Thomas against many opponents, particularly Durandus of Saint-Pourçain.
He wrote a Commentary on the Sentences (ed. Venice 1505, pp. 1-2; P. Bertola, In Ecclesiastical and Papal Sentences [ed. P. P. 1506]); De secundis intentionibus. Tractatus 8; De beatitudine, De Verbo, De aeternitate mundi, De materia caeli, De relationibus, De unitate formarum, De virtutibus, De modo angelico. He also composed two collections: Quadribetum minus and Quodlibeta maiora (ed. Venice 1486). Two works remain unfinished; the first part of these was published by E. Krebs.
