FORTI, MICHALANGELO. — Priest and patriot, b. at Cesacastina on 29 Sept. 1798, d. at Nisida in Oct. 1856. Professor in the Seminary of Teramo and canon of that cathedral, in 1827 he became parish priest of Tortea and then again professor at Teramo in 1841. He took a very active part in the liberal movement following the uprisings of 1848, for which he was arrested on 9 Aug. 1850 on the charge of smuggling political documents, of conspiracy against the government, and sentenced to 24 years to be served in the prison of Nisida. Various writings of his remain.
