FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION (Moldena). — The Institute arose in 1881 in Palagano, Modena, with the approval of the local Ordinary. On 8 March 1938, Pius XI ordered that the decree of praise be granted and the constitutions be provisionally approved.

The Institute’s purpose is the works of Christian apostolate, the education and instruction of children and youth, and the care of the elderly. In 1949, the sisters numbered 150 in 20 houses.
