FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF ST GEORGE THE MARTYR IN THUINE (GERMANY). — Devoted to the care of the sick and orphans and to teaching, they were founded in 1869 by Mother Anselma Bopp (1835–87).
Aggregated in 1906 to the Order of Friars Minor, they were approved by the Holy See in 1909. Spread throughout Germany, Poland and the United States, the sisters also engage in missionary apostolate (since 1920 in Japan and since 1932 in Sumatra). They now number 1,440 sisters in 124 houses.
FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF ST CUNEGONDE. — Founded in Chicago in 1894, where their motherhouse still stands, they have 24 houses in various dioceses of the United States, where 423 sisters devote themselves to teaching, religious instruction, care of the elderly, domestic work, etc.
FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF ST MARY OF THE ANGELS OF WALDREITBACH. — Founded by Mother Rosa (Margherita) Flesch (1826–1906) in 1862, they soon spread widely. In 1904 they were aggregated to the Franciscan Order and in 1915 became of pontifical right. In 1923 they spread to the United States. At present
