Besides a son of King JEHOSHAPHAT (2 Chron. 21:2) and a prefect of the "House of God" in the time of King JOSIAH (ibid. 35:8), three Levites bear this name: one belonged to the musicians of certain [instruments] (1 Chron. 15:18, 20; 16:5); another from the family of Gershon (ibid. 23), entrusted with collecting contributions for the Temple (ibid. 28:8), perhaps to be distinguished from I., son of a Hachmonite, counselor to the king (ibid. 27:32); and a third who participated in the purification of the Temple at the beginning of the reign of HEZEKIAH (2 Chron. 29:13).
