I. conquistò le trenta città amorrite, a sud del Jarmūq, in Galaad, che chiamò havadith I. cioè attendamenti abitati da seminomadi (Num. 32, 41; Iudc. 10, 4; I Reg. 4, 13; I Par. 2, 22). Meno esatta e secondaria la tradizione che pone nel Basan queste città (Deut. 3, 14; Ios. 13, 30). Le 60 città nel Basan, che I Par. 2, 23 sembra attribuire a I., furon conquistate da Nobe (Num. 32, 42).
2. Probabilmente distinto dal precedente e suo discendente è I. di Galaad, giudice d'Israele per 22 anni; padre di 30 figli e padrone di 30 città (solo la Vulgate aggiunge « che chiamò con il suo nome »). Fu sepolto a Camon, vicino a el-Hoṣn (Iudc. 10, 3 sgg.).
