Also known as: Jabin king of Hazor, Yavin

JABIN (Heb. Jābhīn "He considers"). - King of Hazor (Ḥāṣōr), in the tribe of Naphtali, instigator and leader of the Canaanite federation of the north, defeated and killed by Joshua, who occupied the whole region as far as the slopes of Hermon and burned Hazor (Josh. 11:1-17).

Another I. is the successor of the former, in the same Hazor, rebuilt. He held subject the Israelites of the north who, under the leadership of Deborah and Barak, rose up. I. sent against them his general Sisera with 900 war chariots; but they were routed and Sisera killed (Judg. 4:1-24; Ps. 83 [Vulg. 82]:10).
