IABIN (Hebrew *Jābhīn* «he considers»). — King of Hazor (Ἰάβησ), in the tribe of Naphtali, leader and head of the northern Canaanite federation, defeated and killed by Joshua, who occupied the entire region as far as the slopes of Hermon and burned Hazor (Josh. 11:1-17).
Another I. is the successor of the former, in the same Hazor, which was rebuilt. He kept the northern Israelites in subjection, who rose up under the leadership of Deborah and Barak. I. sent his general Sisera against them with 900 war chariots; but they were routed and Sisera killed (Judg. 4:1-24; Ps. 83 [Vulg. 82]:10).
