IAM TOTO SUBITO VESPER EAT POLO

«IAM TOTO SUBITO VESPER EAT POLO». – Hymn of Vespers for the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, in Asclepiad stanzas, composed in the 17th century when Innocent XI instituted the feast, with an inspiring concept different from that of the Friday of the Passion.

The atrocious and sublime martyrdom of the Mother of Jesus at the foot of the Cross is presented in a vision of apocalyptic grandeur, with verses remarkable for their loftiness of thought and elegance of form.
