JAHIEL (Heb. Jēh'ēl). - Name of several biblical figures.

Besides a son of King Jehoshaphat (II Chron. 21:2) and a prefect of the "house of God" in the time of King Josiah (ibid. 35:8), three Levites bear this name: one belonging to the harp players (I Chron. 15:18, 20; 16:5); another of the family of Gershon (ibid. 23), charged with collecting the contributions for the Temple (ibid. 28:8), perhaps to be distinguished from J., son of a Hachmonite, counselor of the King (ibid. 27:32); a third who took part in the purification of the Temple at the beginning of the reign of Hezekiah (II Chron. 29:13) v. IEHEL.
