**LA FORÊG, Louis de.** – Physician and philosopher, born in Paris at the beginning of the 17th century. He practiced medicine in Saumur. He was a disciple and friend of Descartes.
In 1666 he published his *Traité de l'âme humaine, de ses facultés et fonctions et de son union avec le corps*, based on Cartesian principles. The work was translated into Latin the same year by Flayder. The author endeavors to reconcile Descartes with St. Augustine. Regarding the union of soul and body, he assigns two causes: one particular, which is the will of the soul, which can move the body, and one general, which is the divine will, which moves the body in all motions that the soul does not produce.
