JUAN BAPTISTA LARIDITO (John Baptist Laridito) — Benedictine theologian, b. in Madrid c. 1650, d. there c. 1720. In 1691 he obtained the first chair of theology at the University of Salamanca; he was royal theologian for the Immaculate Conception and for some years abbot general of the Benedictine Congregation of Valladolid (1705–1709); after being deposed from the generalship, he governed the abbey of St. Martin in Madrid (1709–13).
His theological work aims to demonstrate the harmony between St. Anselm and St. Thomas: *S. Anselmi uterque liber Cur Deus homo necnon alius de incarnatione Verbi et fide Trinitatis scholiis et commentariis illustratus* (Salamanca 1699); *De summa Trinitate et voluntate Dei eiusque visione beata* (ibid. 1700); *De peccatis in communi et in particulari* (ibid. 1703). He wrote other works of lesser importance.
