He is the author of the first poem in English on the legendary origins of British history (down to 689), largely drawn from the *Historia regum Britanniae* of Mommoth in the Norman version by Wace. The poem, in alliterative verse, possesses notable literary merits, but is important above all as an Arthurian source; alongside the story of Arthur, it recounts the story of Lear and the story of Cymbeline. L. also made use of Breton and non-Manx sources.
