LUGOSOR (TEBE DEI COPTI), DIOCESE OF. - A suffragan diocese of the Coptic Patriarch of Alexandria, founded in 1895 by the apostolic letter *Christi Domini* of Leo XIII (26 Nov. 1895). The bishop resides at Tahta.
In 1946 there were 36,854 faithful, 32 priests, 51 churches and chapels, 90 primary schools and 1 secondary school. In 1947 the new Diocese of Assiut was separated from L. Thus, the Diocese of L. now has only 14,400 faithful and 16 priests.
