LUQUET, JEAN-FÉLIX-ONÉSIME. – Born on 17 June 1810 at Langres (Haute Marne). He was the first student at the « Ecole des Beaux-Arts », where he lost his faith; after his return to God, he entered the Seminary of S. Sulpicio and then, on 19 July 1841, the Seminary of the Foreign Missions of Paris.
Ordained a priest on 21 May 1842, he departed on 21 December of the same year for the mission of Pondichéry. In 1845 he was sent by his bishop, Mgr C. Bonnand, to Rome to present a memorandum on the establishment of the hierarchy in India. In Rome he was appointed coadjutor to Mgr Bonnand, but the appointment was not well received in India, and L. was forced to resign in 1851; he withdrew to the French Seminary in Rome, composing books of piety and on the missions. He was a vigorous promoter of the indigenous clergy. He died in Rome on 3 September 1858.
