MARCAL MARZAL (MARÇAL), FRANCISCO

FRANCISCO MARÇAL (MARCAL), MARZAL. — Lullist, Franciscan of the Province of Majorca, of which he was also superior, born in Mahon (Minorca) in 1591, died on 27 May 1688 in the Convent of St. Francis in Majorca. He is one of the principal representatives and promoters of the Lullian school (v. LOCULO, RAYMUNDO).

He was professor of the Ars lulliana first at the royal convent of Majorca, where there was a special chair, and then at the convent of Araceli in Rome. He oversaw the publication of the *Ars generalis et ultima* of Raymond Lull (Palma de Mallorca 1645) and wrote several works, among which are notable: *De arte inveniendi medium, certamen diælecticum* (Palma 1666); *Resolutio quaestionum beati Raymundi Lulli in IV libros Sententiarum* (ibid. 1673); also *Ars brevis Raymundi Lulli* (Majorca 1669), to which is appended *Nova et naturalis discurrendi methodus*.
