MARIA (Langres). — The Institute was founded around 1835 at St-Loup-sur-Anjou, in the diocese of Langres, by the diocesan bishop, at whose inspiration a pious lady dedicated herself, with two companions, to the Christian education of young girls and to the relief of the sick and poor. The work developed until it became a religious congregation under the Rule of St. Augustine, and as such received its constitutions approved by the same Ordinary of Langres. On 7 August 1867, the decree of praise was granted, and on 21 May 1890 the approval of the Institute, while that of the constitutions dates to 1938 ad experimentum.
The sisters engage in the Christian education of young girls, promote courses of spiritual exercises for laypeople, maintain an orphanage, and carry out works of Christian zeal, such as catechism instruction and the care of tabernacles.
At present, they have 8 houses and 16 sisters.
