MASSA MARTANA. — A town in Umbria that derived its name from the “Vicus Martis Tuderium.” G. Sordini discovered near Massa Martana a subterranean cemetery that had been completely devastated.
The *Passio* of a saint named Illuminata, said to have been buried near Massa Martana, is devoid of any authority (*Analecta Bollandiana*, 42 [1924], pp. 430–31). The same must be said of the *Passio* of the saints Fidenzio and Terenzio (BHL, 2927, b and d) and of that of a supposed bishop Felix of the “civitas Martana.”
