MASSA RELLI, ANGELO. – Bishop, b. at Sanseverino-Marche in 1510, d. at Rome on 17 July 1566.
Having graduated in both laws, he served cardinals, and in particular Agostino Trivulzio; he followed Girolamo Aleandro as his secretary during the latter’s legations, when Aleandro was created cardinal in 1538. After Aleandro’s death he held the same office under Cardinal Marcello Cervini, and when Cervini was sent as legate to the Council of Trent, he was first appointed provisional secretary of the Council, and continued in that office until its closure, to the satisfaction of all for his skill and impartiality. Meanwhile Paul IV, who had him at his court, appointed him Bishop of Telese on 15 Dec. 1557. Besides the letters he wrote, seven *Diaria sacra* of the Ecumenical Council of Trent remain from him, a reliable record of events from 22 Feb. 1545 to 30 Nov. 1561.
