MATTEO D'URFA (EDESSA)

MATTEO of URHA (EDessa). - An Armenian historian of the 12th century, author of a Chronicle or Annals, which narrates historical events from 952 to 1136.

M.’s work is of an uncultivated style, yet interesting in its content, especially in the final part concerning the Crusaders. The French harmonist E. Dulaurier translated M.’s work and introduced it in the series *Recueil des historiens des Croisades* with the Armenian text (*Documents arméniens*, I, Paris 1858).
