MATTEO DA GUBBIO

MATTEO da GUBBIO. - Master of logic and philosophy, of averroistic tendency, first presumably in Perugia, then (1337-47) in Bologna.

Some of his *Quaestiones* remain in the manuscripts Ottob. lat. 318, Vat. lat. 3066, and a commentary on the *Meteora* in the codex Fesul. 161. His name is also recalled in the *Quaestiones* on the *De anima*, in the same codex (fol. 99vb), for a particular view he held on the problem "Utrum intellectus sit forma substantialis corporis." These *Quaestiones* on the *De anima*, inspired Parma (v.), and these in turn by the commentary of Giovanni di Jandun (v.), if not by Matteo himself, could be the work of one of his pupils.
