MATTEO da GUBBIO. — A master of logic and philosophy, of Averroistic inclination, first probably at Perugia, then (1337–47) at Bologna.
Some Quaestiones by him remain in the manuscripts Ottob. lat. 318 and Vat. lat. 3066, as well as a commentary on the Meteore in cod. Fesul. 161. His name is also recalled in the Quaestiones on De anima, in the same manuscript (fol. 99ᵗʰ), for a particular position of his concerning the problem « Utrum intellectus sit forma substantialis corporis ». These Quaestiones on De anima, inspired Parma (v.), just as the latter were inspired by Giovanni di Jandun (v.), if they are not by M., might be the work of one of his pupils.
