MATTEO DA GUBBIO

MATTHEW OF GUBBIO. - Master of logic and philosophy, of Averroistic tendency, first presumably at Perugia, then (1337-47) at Bologna.

Some Quaestiones by him survive in codices Ottob. lat. 318 and Vat. lat. 3066, and a commentary on the Meteora in cod. Fesul. 161. His name is also recorded in the Quaestiones on the De anima, in the same codex (fol. 99ᵗʰ), on account of a particular view of his on the problem "Utrum intellectus sit forma substantialis corporis". These Quaestiones on the De anima, inspired by those of Taddeo da Parma (v.), as the latter were by the commentary of John of Jandun (v.), if they are not by M., could be the work of one of his pupils.
