NICHOLAS OF VERDUN – The “Verdun Altar.” The 51 gilt-copper plaques with enamels formed an ambo, commissioned by Provost Werner (1181). The present triptych dates from 1322–24. It depicts the life of Christ, with types from the Old Testament.
He was canonized by Urban II in 1098. Principal patron of the city of Trani; feast on 2 June.
