PASCASINUS, bishop of LILYBAEUM. – He was already bishop in 440, when he was taken prisoner by the Vandals, who had landed in Sicily; during his captivity he was subjected to maltreatment, as he himself later wrote to Pope Leo the Great.
The latter sent him as his legate and president to the Council of Chalcedon (451), where P. carried out his mandate with skill and tact, concluding with the condemnation of Eutyches (v.) and Dioscorus, bishop of Alexandria (v.). Pope Leo the Great praises, in his letters, his unwavering faith and his vast and sure doctrine, and consulted him on liturgical matters. M. after 453.
