PENITENT RECOLLECTINE NUNS OF OIR-SCHOT. — The Institute is a detached branch of the Limburgo Congregation, founded on 21 September 1623 by Mother Giovanna di Gesù and approved by Urban VIII on 15 July 1634.
The ancient Constitutions, which remained in force for the detached branches of Oirschot, Oisterwijk, and Gemert until 1878, were revised, adapted, and approved by the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda on 26 July of that year and on 2 June 1891, when the three detached branches were united under a common regime. After the publication of the Code, they were again revised and approved by the Sacred Congregation of Religious on 6 February 1928. The Mother House is at Oirschot (Holland).
The Institute is engaged in the education of youth and the care of the elderly and the sick. It is composed of choir nuns and lay sisters who take simple, temporary, and perpetual vows. At the end of 1949, there were 695 sisters and 27 novices distributed in 30 houses.
