PIETRO d'Ancarano. - Canonist glossator, born between 1330 and 1333 at Ancarano, died in Bologna on 13 May 1416. A pupil of Baldo degli Ubaldi, he was a professor at Bologna in 1384; he subsequently taught at Siena (1387-90), Padua, Ferrara and again at Bologna, representing that university at the Council of Pisa.
He composed commentaries on the Decretals of Gregory (Lyon 1518-31), on the *Sext* of Boniface VIII (Venice 1575), and on the Clementines (there 1483, Lyon 1511 and others); the complete edition of his various commentaries was published in 5 vols. in Bologna in 1581. He also authored highly regarded *Consilia* (Venice 1569, 1576).
