The faculties, granted ad decennium, entered into force on 1 January 1941. The two formulae also include in their text the supplement added to the old ones and are the most extensive granted thus far. They also contain the faculty concerning permission to read prohibited books. The entire subject matter is divided into four chapters dealing with faculties circa sacramenta et sacros ritus (arts. 1–28 for the greater formula and 1–27 for the lesser); circa absolutiones, benedictiones, indulgentias et indulta varia (arts. 29–49 for the greater formula and 28–49 for the lesser); pro ipso Ordinario (arts. 50–53 for the greater and 50–52 for the lesser). Three animadversiones are added to the articles. The first states that the subdelegable faculties are marked with an asterisk; the second recalls that they may be exercised « intra fines suae iurisdictionis », « gratis », « et facta mentione apostolicae delegationis »; the third concerns their renewal and the case in which, through forgetfulness or inadvertence, they should be used beyond the date of expiration. The lesser formula also contained an art. no. 53, which was suppressed in the 1947 reprinting. It granted apostolic prefects the use of the insignia and privileges of protonotaries apostolic de munere participantium even outside their own territory. In the 1947 reprinting, the words « tam natae quam » were abolished in no. 24 of the greater formula and no. 23 of the lesser formula.
In addition to these decennial faculties, Propaganda grants the Ordinaries of missions in Latin America other faculties ad decennium, connected with the apostolic letter Trans Oceanum of Leo XIII dated 18 April 1897; moreover, it continues to grant the Ordinaries of southeastern Europe the faculties according to the formula extra ordinem.
