ROMAGLIA, COSTANTINO. - Moral theologian,
b. at Lucca on 5 Nov. 1677, d. there on 24 Mar. 1737.
He entered the Congregation of the Regular Clerics of the Mother of God at a very young age and held many offices there, eventually becoming its vicar general.
Among his works, the most important is the Universa theologia moralis (2 vols. fol., Lucca 1730, reprinted and cited many times until the final edition, 10 vols., ibid. 1833–35). St ALPHONSUS considered it a classic treatise in its entirety and, given the times, commendable for its mitigated probabilism. In Lucca, in 1734, Romaglia also published the Historia ecclesiastica Veteris Novique Testamenti by N. Alessandro, which had already been condemned for its Gallican tendencies; Romaglia, however, corrected it with lengthy and learned annotations and gave it renewed and wide renown under its new form.
