SANTAROSA DE COPÁN, DIOCESE OF. – A city and diocese comprising the civil provinces of S. Barbara, Copán, Lempira, Ocotepeque, and Intibucá in Honduras (Central America).
It has an area of 16,700 sq. km. and a population of 509,740, all Catholic, with 24 parishes served by 26 diocesan priests and 5 regular clergy; it has a seminary, 2 male and 2 female religious communities (*Ann. Pont. 1952*, p. 364). The diocese was erected by Benedict XV on 2 Feb. 1916, by separation from the diocese of Comayagua, as a suffragan of Tegucigalpa.
