He was prior at Lucca, Siena, and Florence (S. Marco [1506–1507]), procurator general in 1508–15, visitor in Germany (1512), archbishop of Capua from 1520 to 1536, and cardinal of S. Sisto on 21 May 1535. Under Julius II he took part in the Fifth Lateran Council. He was sent by Leo X and Clement VII to Poland, Hungary, Spain, France, and England. He governed Florence in 1530.
He wrote *Orationes 5 de admiranda Christi pugna cum diabolo in deserto* (Leipzig 1511 and 1684); *Epistole in Lettere de' Principi* (Venice 1570–77); unpublished are the *Sermones de tempore et sanctis* and a paraphrase of the epistle of St. John (Cod. Monac., 208, ff. 1–24).
