SCHOLLINER, HERMANN. - Benedictine theologian, b. at Freising on 15 Jan. 1722, d. at Welchenberg on 16 July 1795. A monk at Oberaltaich (1738), he studied at Erfurt and Salzburg; he became director of Benedictine studies in Bavaria (1752), then professor of dogmatics at Salzburg (1759); after 1766 he retired to his abbey.
He was called to direct the Monumenta Boica (1768) and, after having been for a short time parish priest at Bogenberg, became prior (1772). Upon the suppression of the Jesuits he was appointed professor of dogmatics at Ingolstadt (1773), where he reformed the study of theology. He became rector of the University (1776), then provost of Welchenberg, a dependent house of Oberaltaich (1780-84). Among his works are to be remembered: De Magistratuum ecclesiasticorum origine et creatione (Salzburg 1751-52); De disciplinae arcani antiquitate (Tegernsee 1755); Ecclesiae orientalis et occidentalis concordio in transubstantiatione (Regensburg 1756); Historia theologiae christianae primi saeculi (Salzburg 1761).
