SWOBODA, HEINRICH. - Theologian, b. June 28, 1861 in Vienna, d. there May 7, 1923. Professor of pastoral theology and catechetics at the University of Vienna from 1895, a brilliant orator and good organizer.
An important member of the Leogesellschaft, he founded there the artistic and catechetical sections, dividing his activity into these two fields, to which he devoted all his talent. With the volume: Grossstadtseelsorge (2nd ed. 1911) he confronted the serious problem of the care of souls in large cities, stirring controversy, especially in France. Noteworthy is his contribution in the volume Der Dom von Aquileia, 1916, edited by Carlo Lanckoronscki, in the part concerning the great excavations and the buildings.
