SWOBODA, HEINRICH. – Theologian, b. 28 June 1861 at Vienna, d. there 7 May 1923. Professor of pastoral theology and catechetics at the University of Vienna from 1895, a brilliant orator and skilled organizer.
An important member of the Leogesellschaft, he founded its artistic and catechetical sections, devoting his energies to these two fields to which he dedicated all his talent. With the volume *Grosstadtseelsorge* (2nd ed. 1911), he addressed the serious problem of the cure of souls in large cities, sparking controversy, especially in France. His notable contribution to the volume *Der Dom von Aquileia* (1916), edited by Carlo Lanckoronscki, pertains to the great excavations and buildings.
