ROBERTO di COLLE TORTO (TORTOCOLLO), also called di ORFORD (ERFORD). - B. in southern England, d. toward the end of the 13th century. He entered the Dominican Order and around 1285 was magister regent and preacher at the University of Oxford, where he certainly remained until 1293.
All his works are a defense of the doctrines of s. Tommaso d'Aquino: Reprobationes dictorum a fr. Aegidio in sententiarum libros (Merton-College 276); a commentary on the 2nd book of the Sentenze (Klosterneuburg 322); against the Franciscan Guglielmo de Mare, the correctorium «Sciendum» (cod. lat. 468, Berlin, State Library). His last work known thus far is the Impugnatio Henrici de Gandavo (Vat. lat. 987), manuscripts of which are also found in the Vallicelliana and in the Library of Peterhouse at Cambridge. These writings are distinguished by their calmness and profundity.
