ROBERTO DI COLLE TORTO (TORTOCOLLO), also called OF ORFORD (ERFORD). — Born in southern England, died toward the end of the 13th century. He entered the Dominican Order and around 1285 was magister regens and preacher at the University of Oxford, where he certainly remained until 1293.
All his works are a defense of the doctrines of St. Thomas Aquinas: *Reprobationes dictorum a fr. Aegidio in sententiarum libros* (Merton College 276); a commentary on the 2nd book of the *Sentences* (Klosterneuburg 322); and against the Franciscan William de Mara, the *Correctorium — Sciendum —* (ms. lat. 468, Berlin, State Library). His last known work is the *Impugnatio Henrici de Gandavo* (Vat. lat. 987), of which manuscripts are also found in the Vallicelliana and in the Peterhouse Library at Cambridge. These writings are distinguished by their calm and depth.
