SCHOLASTIK. - Quarterly periodical of philosophy and theology, founded in 1926 by the Jesuit professors of the Collegio S. Ignazio at Valkenburg (Holland).
When the College was dissolved during the Second World War, the Jesuit professors of the theological Faculty and of the higher philosophical-theological School of Francoforte sul Meno, and of the philosophical Faculty of the Collegio S. Giovanni Berchmans at Pullach (Monaco), took over its publication. Its editor until 1935 was Fr. Herman Lange; from 1935 onward, Fr. Herman Weissweiler. The periodical aims to take a position on current fundamental philosophical questions, proceeding from scholastic philosophy and theology. But “scholastic” here is not to be understood in the historical sense of the word, but rather in the sense of its fundamental historical principle: real and broad discussion of questions and problems, without attachment to any particular historical system. Each issue contains a clear and penetrating introduction to the new international philosophical and theological literature insofar as it concerns fundamental questions. Corrado Algermissen
