With the dissolution of the College during the Second World War, the publication was taken over by Jesuit professors from the Theological Faculty and the Higher Philosophical-Theological School of Frankfurt am Main, and from the Philosophical Faculty of the College of St John Berchmans in Pullach (Munich). Its directors were Fr Herman Lange until 1935, and subsequently Fr Herman Weissweiler. The journal aims to address current fundamental philosophical questions from the standpoint of Scholastic philosophy and theology. Here, "Scholastic" is not to be understood in the historical sense of the term, but rather in the sense of its fundamental historical principle: a genuine and broad discussion of questions and problems, without being tied to any particular historical system. Each issue contains a clear and penetrating introduction to new international philosophical and theological literature insofar as it relates to fundamental questions.
