Seelsorger, Der

SEELSORGER, Der. - A periodical that arose in Vienna in 1925, following the Congress on pastoral life held there in December 1924.

Its subtitle determined its purpose and nature: "Monthly for preaching adapted to the times, for the liturgical movement and pastoral practice." Subscribers soon grew to several thousand throughout German territory; but following difficulties, in January 1939 the periodical suspended publication. It was resumed in 1945, with the new subtitle "Monthly for all fields of priestly work for the Kingdom of God," embracing with fundamental themes all questions of current relevance in the care of souls. It fosters close contact between publisher, contributors and the world of the laity; it promotes decisive cooperation in practical work for the Kingdom of God. It now has a print run of 2,500 copies.
