Periodical founded in Vienna in 1925, following the Congress on Pastoral Life held there in December 1924.
The subtitle defined its purpose and nature: "Monthly for preaching adapted to the times, for the liturgical movement and pastoral practice." Subscribers soon grew to several thousand throughout the German-speaking world; however, due to opposition, publication was suspended in January 1939. It resumed in 1945 with the new subtitle "Monthly for all fields of priestly work for the Kingdom of God," addressing fundamental themes and all current issues in the care of souls. It fosters close contact between editors, contributors, and the world of the laity; it encourages decisive cooperation in practical work for the Kingdom of God. It now has a circulation of 2,500 copies.
