SEELSORGER, Der. – Periodical founded in Vienna in 1925, following the Congress on Pastoral Life held there in December 1924.
Its subtitle defined its purpose and nature: “Monthly journal for preaching adapted to the times, the liturgical movement, and pastoral practice.” Subscribers soon increased to several thousand throughout the German-speaking territory; but, owing to difficulties, the periodical suspended publication in January 1939. Publication resumed in 1945, with the new subtitle “Monthly journal for all fields of priestly work for the Kingdom of God,” addressing, through fundamental themes, all current issues in pastoral care. It promotes close contact among the publisher, contributors, and the world of the laity; it encourages determined cooperation in practical work for the Kingdom of God.
