ZEITSCHRIFT FÜR KATHOLISCHE THEOLOGIE. - A quarterly periodical founded in 1876 by Frs. J. Wieser and Fr. Stentrup, professors of theology at the Imperial University of Innsbruck.
As an independent periodical, the Z. f. k. T. ceased with a double issue (1–2) of vol. 67 (1943), in order to merge with the periodical Aszese und Mystik. Of the two periodicals thus united, only one double issue appeared, again in vol. 67 (1943), and the following yearly volume: 68 (1944). From vol. 69 (1947)
the Z. f. k. T. resumed quarterly publication under the editorship of Fr. A. Jungmann. The review is regarded as an important factor in the field of the history of theology and an indispensable instrument of scholarly work. Its principal subjects concern questions of exegesis, especially New Testament exegesis, pastoral theology, early Scholasticism, interpretations of St Thomas, the history of the liturgy, sacramental practice, and asceticism.
