ZEITSCHRIFT FÜR KATHOLISCHE THEOLOGIE. - A quarterly periodical founded in 1876 by Frs. J. Wieser and Fr. Stentrup, professors of theology at the Imperial University of Innsbruck.

As a periodical in its own right, the Z. f. k. T. ceased with a double issue (1-2) of vol. 67 (1943), in order to merge with the periodical Aszese und Mystik. Of the two periodicals thus combined, only a double issue appeared, again of vol. 67 (1943), and the following year: 68 (1944). From vol. 69 (1947)

the Z. f. k. T. resumed quarterly publication under the direction of Fr. A. Jungmann. The journal is regarded as an important factor in the field of the history of theology and an indispensable instrument of scholarly work. Its main subjects, in fact, concern questions of exegesis, especially New Testament exegesis, of pastoral theology, of ancient scholasticism, of interpretations of St. Thomas, of the history of the liturgy, of sacramental practice, and of ascetics.
