THEOLOGISCHE QUARTALSCHRIFT. - Scientific organ of the Catholic faculty of theology, established in 1817 at the University of Tübingen.
It was founded in 1819 by Joh. Sebastian Drey, Joh. Baptist Hirscher, Joh. Adam Möhler, Joh. Georg Herbst. In 132 years of existence, every movement, event or publication of importance in the field of science and Catholic life has received a more or less detailed mention in the pages of the periodical. Nor have the other sciences been neglected; a great part of the work is in fact devoted to reporting, judging and distinguishing the data of the various researches. The characteristic of the T. Q. consists above all in the organic union of the speculative and historical method in theology, in the acute observation of modern currents of thought, in the exploitation of the new philosophy for theology, under the guidance of the Church. Director of the periodical since 1939 is Franz Xaver Arnold.
