THEOLOGISCHE QUARTALSCHRIFT. — Scholarly organ of the Faculty of Catholic Theology established in 1817 at the University of Tübingen.
It was founded in 1819 by Joh. Sebastian Drey, Joh. Baptist Hirscher, Joh. Adam Möhler, and Joh. Georg Herbst. During its 132 years of existence, every movement, event, or publication of importance in the field of Catholic scholarship and life has received more or less detailed mention in the pages of the periodical. Nor have the other sciences been neglected; indeed, a large part of its work is devoted to reporting, assessing, and distinguishing the findings of various investigations. The chief characteristic of T. Q. lies above all in the organic union of the speculative and historical methods in theology, in its acute observation of modern currents of thought, and in its utilization of the new philosophy for theology, under the guidance of the Church. Franz Xaver Arnold has been the periodical’s director since 1939.
