SEERT, DIOCESE of. – Chaldean episcopal see in Iraq, probably already existing in the 4th century. The succession of Catholic bishops resumed in 1553. In 1913, the diocese had 5,380 faithful and 21 priests. It was destroyed in 1915 and has remained impeded ever since. Guglielmo De Vries
