SEERT, DIOCESE OF. - A Chaldean cispocale see in Iraq, probably already existing in the 4th century. The series of Catholic bishops recognized in 1553. The diocese counted, in 1913, 5,380 faithful and 21 priests. It was destroyed in 1915 and has remained so ever since.
