THEODORE BAR KÔNÎ. - Nestorian writer of the 8th century, a native of Kāškat, not to be confused with Theodore, bishop of Lāšōm.

He was probably a monk. The only work of his that survives is the Liber scholiorum, which contains eleven mēmēr or commentaries. Mēmēr 1-5 comment on the Old Testament and mēmēr 7-9 on the New. The 6th contains a kind of introduction to the New Testament with many theological definitions. The others are apologetic in content, against heretics, Muslims and pagans. The 11th gives very interesting information on the Manichaeans and other Eastern sects. The Syriac text of the Liber scholiorum was published by Addai Scher in the Corpus Script. Chr. Or., Ser. Syri (2nd series, LXV-LXVI, Paris 1910-12).
