THEODORE BAR WARBŌN. - Jacobite writer, bishop and anti-patriarch, a native of Melitene, d. in 1192-93.

He was secretary of the Jacobite patriarch Michael the Great and as such took part in the negotiations for union of Romqläh with the Greeks. Later he rebelled against Michael and acted against him as anti-patriarch under the name John. In the end he came to be recognized by the Armenian prince Leo II of Cilicia (later king) as patriarch of the Jacobites in his State.

Two letters by him are extant; a polemical work against the patriarch Michael and an explanation of the mysteries of the Church (ms. of Charfet 4/1), important for knowing the doctrine of the Jacobites on the Sacraments and their liturgical customs.
