SEERT, CHRONICLE OF. — This is the name given by its editor A. Scher to an ancient chronicle written in Arabic by a Nestorian, probably in the first half of the 13th century. It is contained in a single manuscript that seems to be the original, of which some folios are found in Mosul, in the Library of the Chaldean Patriarchate, while others are in S. The chronicle is not always objective and contains some legends, such as that of Pope Sylvester. It is, however, of notable interest with regard to Nestorian history. Precious, for example, are the notices it provides regarding the Christians deported from Antioch to Persia by Shapur I.
