Seert, Chronicle of

SEERT, CRONACA di. — This is the name given by its editor, A. Scher, to an ancient chronicle written in Arabic by a Nestorian, probably in the first half of the thirteenth century. It is contained in a single manuscript that appears to be the original, some leaves of which are found at Mossul, in the Library of the Chaldean Patriarchate, while others are at S. The chronicle is not always objective and contains certain legends, such as that of Pope Silvester. It is nevertheless of considerable interest with regard to Nestorian history. Particularly valuable, for example, is the information it provides concerning the Christians deported from Antioch to Persia by Sapore I.
