SIMEON BAR SABBA, Saint. - Archbishop of Seleucia-Ctesiphon (Persia), martyr killed by Shapur II at Karkha de Ledan on 17 April 344 (according to Peeters, 341).

According to the acts, which are worthy of credence, the Saint refused to collect double tributes from the Christians in order to wage war against the Romans. St. Simeone is the head of about a hundred Persian martyrs, among whom the foremost are Guhišazâd, a eunuch and formerly tutor of Shapur, Abedechala and Anania, priests, and Punicius, prefect of the imperial artisans. Feast on 21 April.
