SCHULTER, JOHANN FRIEDRICH von. - Canonist and historian of law, b. 23 Apr. 1827 at Winterberg (Westphalia), d. at Merano 19 Dec. 1914. Having taken his doctorate in both civil and canon law in 1851 at Berlin, he became in 1853 a privatdocent at Bonn, in 1854 extraordinary professor of canon law at Prague, in 1855 ordinary professor of canon law and of the history of Germanic law at the same university; in 1873 he moved to Bonn and there continued the same teaching until 1906, the year in which he retired to Merano.
