SCHUBERT, FRANZ
Musician, b. 31 Jan. 1797 in Vienna, d. there 19 Nov. 1828.
After his first studies with his father, his brother, and M. Holze, chapel master of his parish church, he was admitted to the Imperial Chapel and to the boarding school where he became first violin.
By 1811 he had already composed various pieces, including a Mass in C major and a Kyrie. At 16 he left the boarding school and became a tutor, while continuing to compose, among other works, the Mass in G major and the Mass in F, which was performed on 16 Oct. 1814 on the occasion of the first centenary of the parish of Lichtenstall and met with great success.
