AMMANI, Sebastiano. — Augustinian, born in Fano, died 30 July 1568. In 1547 a student in Rome, he later went to Bologna, Pavia, and Treviso, teaching until 1557, the year in which he was elected general secretary of the Order. He took part in the Council of Trent, where he received the doctoral insignia from the bishop of Aversa. Of wide learning and varied activity, he was a prolific writer and tireless preacher. He devoted special attention to refuting the errors of innovators. Among his many works—historical, theological, and polemical—the Conclusiones Catholicae contra Lutheranos deserve mention.
