ANDREA da Noffri. — Sculptor, born in Florence in 1388; the date of his death is uncertain. Also known as A. da Firenze, he sculpted several statues in his native city for the chapel of St. Lawrence in S. Lucia de' Bardi (1420) and executed works (1441–42) for the dome of the Cathedral. Outside Florence, he worked on the funerary monument of Bishop Simone Vigilante, now lost to us, for the church of S. Francesco della Scala in Ancona; in Naples, he signed the tomb of Count Fernando da S. Severino in the Congregation of S. Monica.
His style, which reveals him as a second-rate artist, adheres to the late Gothic manner, with unassimilated Renaissance elements.
