ANDRUOTSSOS, CHRESTOS. - Greek philosopher and theologian, b. in Kios of Bithynia in 1869, d. in 1937. Professor of dogmatic theology and moral theology at the University of Athens from 1912 to 1918 and from 1925 until his death, A. published about twenty works and pamphlets on philosophical, apologetic, dogmatic, and moral topics.
Among the principal ones we may cite: *Il male in Platone* (*Tò kakòn parà Plátōni*, 2 vols., Athens-Constantinople 1896-97); *La teoria della conoscenza di Platone* (*Ho toû Platōnòs perí tês gnóseōs*, Athens 1902); *Manuale di Simbolica* (*Doxikòn Sýmbolikòs*, 1st ed., Athens 1901; 2nd enlarged ed., Athens 1930), in which the author examines the doctrinal divergences among the various Christian confessions; *Dogmatica della Chiesa Ortodossa Orientale* (*Dogmatikè tês orthodóxou anatolikês Ekklēsías*, Athens 1907), the only complete manual of dogmatics published by a Greek since 1833; on several points the author appears under the influence of Protestant theology, rejects many Catholic dogmas which, moreover, he does not know well, and generally upholds the theses of the ancient anti-Latin polemic; finally, A. wrote a *System of Ethics* (*Sýstēma ethikês*, Athens 1925).
