ANIANUS of ORLEANS, St. — Successor of St. Evurtius on the episcopal see of Orléans, chiefly remembered in the writings of Sidonius Apollinaris (Epist. VIII, 15) and Gregory of Tours (Hist. Francorum II, 17) for having organized the defence of his city at the time of Attila’s invasions (451). The Martyrologium Hieronymianum commemorates him on 17 Nov., the day of his deposition, and on 14 June, when his relics were translated; these were destroyed by the Huguenots in 1562.
