CLEMENT DE BOISSY, Athanase-Alexandre. - French jurist, brother of Agostino, Bishop of Versailles, and councillor of the Chambre des Comptes in Paris, born at Créteil in 1716, died at Saint-Palaye in 1793.
He wrote on theological and ascetical subjects. Besides the curious apologetic work L'Autour de la nature (3 vols., Paris 1782), which begins with physiological notions and extends into eschatological hypotheses, he published: Abrégé et canonique des livres de la Sagesse (ibid. 1767), Abrégé de l'Ancien et du Nouveau Testament (2 vols., ibid. 1788, under the pseudonym “Fontenay”), Manuel des Saintes Écritures (3 vols., ibid. 1788–89). He also wrote, under the same pseudonym, De la grâce de Dieu et de la prédestination (ibid. 1787) and Le mépris des choses humaines (ibid. 1791).
