CORRAD of WALDAHUSEN (C. of AUSTRIA). - Augustinian canon, born in Upper Austria certainly before 1320, died in Prague on 8 Dec. 1369. He was a canon at Waldhausen; after ordination to the priesthood, he preached for 15 years.
In his sermons he vigorously advocated a radical reform of the clergy and the people. He achieved good results, but his overly fiery and biting language earned him an accusation of heresy, from which he had to clear himself in Rome in 1359. He therefore composed his Apologia, which he published in 1365; the main details of his life are drawn from this work. C. also served as parish priest in various places. None of his sermons has survived. Apart from the aforementioned Apologia, 73 of his discourses are known to survive in manuscript form, transmitted as the Postilla de-dentium of the University of Prague, and a treatise De arte oratoria, also still in manuscript.
